Arrived Austria today and I must say the 13hrs flight is a killer...luckily Ginny was with me all the while during the journey.
At Changi ariport, we had he funniest moment...our bags are totally too overweight..in the end me and Ginny had to forgo our foodstuff and most of our clothes...still my dear Ginny had to pay $180 fo excess baggage. After saying all our goodbyes, we proceeded to board the plane..Ginny's tears flowed and I wanted to cry too because it's going to be a long time away from home..but I did not...I told myself I had to be strong.
After reaching Frankfurt, both of us are really tired. We still had to wait for 1 hour before we caught another plane to Graz. During transit, the customs confisicated my shampoo, my toothpaste, my mouthwash. They are really strict about liquids going on board and also creams that are over 100g. Luckily my cream for cold rash is 100g...hence I still had that.
Once we reach Graz, our colleague picked us up from the airport. It is 10 degrees in Graz now...our apartment is at our office upstairs. As everything is still in construction, we had to share our apartment with the 2 guy colleagues. Best part is the room is very raw...only 2 beds available...had the feeling of going back to urbanisation. After putting down our bags, we went straight to the office to have briefing...both me and Ginny are terribly tired because of jetlag and also hungry. Waited almost 1 hour before we had our lunch (It's 7 hours behind Singapore time). Lunch is from a Chinese restaurant and the food is expensive. It's rice with one dish of vegetable fried with chicken...that cost us euro5 which is SGD10...sigh...everything is expensive here!
Went on to pack our room and realise we need to get brooms and cloth and other necessities. Our colleague then drove us to the supermarket and we got some bread, eggs, milk, cloth to clean the room, cheese, soap...everything is not cheap here...cost from 2euro to 5euro...sigh...I really wonder how long my money can last me.
Now still in the office...feeling very sleepy...really wonder how I am going to survive this place here...beginning to miss home terribly...and the best part is our colleague told us we are here to work 7days a week, from 8am -6pm provided there is nothing to do...why do I feel I am being sold here as a coolie? Anyway hope tomorrow will be a better day!
